Camila Rocha / Moving Environment IV

June 12th - July 8th In Moving Environment IV exhibition, Camila Rocha shares her in-depth research on ferns, among the oldest living organisms on our planet. Capturing the light and movement within their leaves has become a compelling challenge for the artist, particularly as she portrays a specific fern that has long been at the center of her investigations. What fascinates Camila is not only the fern’s appearance, but also the fragility it reveals. Although it seems remarkably resilient, the fern dies almost immediately when cut vertically for painting. Counterintuitively, as it grows, it changes from brown to purple and then from purple to green. In other words, while some of Camila’s paintings may appear as though they are suspended within a purple liquid belonging to another reality, that reality remains deeply connected to and inhabited by the samambaia, the fern that inspires her work.
