Exercises in Holding On

  • Exercises in Holding On

Working across sculpture, installation, neon, video, LED, and found objects, Engin brings together a wide range of materials and media to explore both personal and collective narratives through a distinctly interdisciplinary approach. In Exercises in Holding On, Engin reflects on the individual's ongoing search for balance, resilience, and self-reinvention in an increasingly uncertain and ever-changing world. A recurring motif throughout his practice, the playing card becomes a metaphor for the fragile relationship between chance and control, the individual and the system, vulnerability and endurance. His modular metal sculptures, balanced only by leaning against one another, transform this idea into a tangible physical form. Comprising mirrored neon installations, textile works, and large-scale metal sculptures, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on memory, representation, the digital age, and contemporary social structures. At the same time, it presents artistic practice not as a finished achievement, but as a continuous process of inquiry, transformation, and resilience.
